The environment

As a responsible company and a major energy distributor and retailer, Integral Energy recognises the need to address all the environmental impacts of electricity production and distribution including greenhouse gas emissions. We acknowledge that major transitions and the adoption of new technologies can take time, but we are committed to taking immediate action whilst planning for a sustainable future.
This position is reflected in our Environment Policy, which is endorsed by the Board and provides a statement of high level principles that the organisation is committed to achieving.

Integral Energy and its qualified contractors use pesticides when necessary to control weeds and pests (including weeds, rodents and timber-eating insects), to protect our power poles, and to avoid the dangers that pest-damaged poles can present to the public. Most of the pesticides we use pose low risk to the public. Where stronger pesticides are used, they are applied with care and environmental sensitivity.
In applying best practice to minimise adverse impacts on the environment, all our pesticide appliers are fully trained to comply with relevant legislation and standards.
Keeping the community informed
The Integral Energy Pesticide Use Notification Plan has been developed to plan community notification of the use of pesticides in public places, so that measures can be taken to avoid contact.
If you would like to discuss the Plan or obtain specific details of pesticide applications in public places, please contact:

Integral Energy recognises the value of trees in the landscape and appreciates that their pruning or removal can be a sensitive and emotional issue. However 90% of all blackouts are caused when trees damage powerlines, so effective management is essential.
As part of a carefully managed 12-month cycle, we employ the services of trained horticulturalists, arborists and tree trimmers to help ensure that we can continue to deliver a safe and reliable electricity supply. While trimming can look severe at first, trees re-grow at a normal rate and training them away from powerlines helps avoid the need to remove them entirely in the future.
We also run electricity services underground to new subdivisions wherever possible, and replace existing overhead assets with underground ones as part of urban consolidation and redevelopment programs.
