Renewable energy

Environmental Benefits

A typical 1 kWh PV solar panel system can produce an average of 25% of total electricity required per average household consumption, per annum, which is approximately 1400 kWh. This will save approximately 1500 kilograms of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases per annum (using the greenhouse gas coefficient of 1.068 published by the Australian Greenhouse Office).

Introduction of the NSW Solar Bonus Scheme

The NSW Government has recently announced the introduction of the NSW Feed-in Tariff called the Solar Bonus Scheme commencing on the 1st January 2010.

This scheme is available to all customers who consume less than 160 MWh pa and who have eligible solar photovoltaic (PV) systems or wind turbine generators installed at their premise.  This will provide a feed-in tariff rate of 60 cents per kilowatt hour (c/kWh) for all generated electricity. This generated electricity will be credited to customers via their bill on a gross metered basis.

Detailed information regarding this scheme can be found on the NSW Industry and investment website:

http://www.industry.nsw.gov.au/energy/sustainable/renewable/solar/solar-scheme

All eligible customers currently enrolled in the SunPower program will be transitioned to the Solar Bonus Scheme from the 1st January 2010. Current customers who do not meet the eligibility criteria will remain on the SunPower program.
