Vegetation management

90% of all blackouts are caused when trees damage powerlines. So maintaining safety around our electricity network is one of Integral Energy’s key priorities.

The Integral Energy Vegetation Management program:

  • Ensures a safe and reliable electricity power supply
  • Minimises the possibility of accidental electrocution
  • Prevents destruction, damage or interference with our network
  • Reduces the risk and inconvenience of power interruptions to business and the community
  • Reduces the risk of bushfires caused by electricity

Integral Energy complies with the relevant industry codes of practice as outlined in the Industry Safety Steering Committee (ISSC) 3 publication “Guide to Tree Planting and Maintaining Safety Clearances Near Powerlines”.

Information for landowners

Integral Energy maintains vegetation safety clearances in most areas unless a specific arrangement has been negotiated with relevant landowners or occupiers, and in an emergency will carry out any work necessary for safety and the restoration of electricity supply without notice. Councils, Landowners and Occupiers will normally be notified in advance about general vegetation management works in their area, or on or adjacent to their properties.

Integral Energy asks that landowners / occupiers monitor the clearance between vegetation and our network to ensure a clearance space is maintained. Then contact us if the space is compromised.

Trimming or removal of vegetation within three metres of the network can be extremely dangerous and should only be attempted by appropriately qualified and authorised people.

Safe planting

When planting vegetation near our network, please only consider low growing shrubs. With trees, plant at the same distance from the powerline as their potential height. In rural and bushfire prone areas please keep the areas under and near powerlines and network items free of any combustible materials.
