Handling potential pet problems

Dogs represent the single biggest hazard to Integral Energy meter readers and other field staff. Therefore Integral Energy has developed a Dealing With Dangerous Dogs Policy which stipulates that no Integral Energy meter reader will access a property that contains an unrestrained dog which is NSW Government classified as a ‘restricted’ breed, and/or a breed ‘more likely to bite’.

Restricted breeds include:

  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasiliero
  • Japanese Tosa

The breeds ‘most responsible for reported bites’ include:

  • Australian Cattle Dog
  • Bull Terrier
  • Bullmastiff
  • Doberman
  • German Shepherd
  • Rhodesian Ridgeback
  • Rottweiler
  • Cross-breeds of any of the above.

If you own a dog which is a breed or cross-breed detailed above, please notify Integral Energy by telephoning 131 002.

Please also be aware during meter reading visits that a normally non-aggressive dog can attack if it feels threatened, is sick or has not been socialised.

On this basis, our field staff reserve the right to use discretion and not access a property if they believe that a dog is aggressive, cannot be certain that it is restrained, or are unsure of the breed of dog at your premises

Thank you for your cooperation.
