The need

The $58 million Granville Zone Substation forms part of Integral Energy’s $300 million 15 year plan to reinforce electricity supply to the Parramatta CBD and surrounding areas.

By 2011, the maximum summer electrical load of the Granville area is forecast to exceed the firm capacity of the existing zone substation by 13MVA. This means that the existing network would be unable to supply 2600 customers at the peak of electricity consumption in the summer of 2011 should one of the critical elements of the zone substation be out of service. Integral Energy’s distribution licence conditions set by the NSW Government require zone substations of this size to have sufficient capacity to continue to supply all customers should either a transformer or a feeder supplying the zone substation be out of service.
